St Joseph’s School, Port Lincoln has welcomed their new Principal, Dr Sandra Hewson with the whole school gathering in the Church for a very special liturgy. It was a lovely way to celebrate Dr Hewson joining the School family and welcome her to the community. School Captains Millie and Jamie, and Foundation students Alexandra and Marli presented her with a small welcoming gift. Accompanied by school musicians and singers, everyone joined in and sang the song, ‘Welcome to the Family’.
Dr Hewson said, ‘I came to holiday in Port Lincoln a few years ago with my family and fell in love with the place, so I cannot believe my good fortune in coming back here as Principal of St Joseph’s School. In all of my years of teaching and numerous re-locations, I can honestly say that I’ve had the warmest welcome I’ve experienced anywhere; there has been a real spirit of hospitality and an understandable hint of curiosity. It is an absolute privilege and responsibility to lead a community of faith and learning and there is a true spirit of love, inclusion and positivity at St Joseph’s that I’ve already picked up in conversations with students and staff.’
In recent conversation, Dr Hewson also said, ‘A learning community should be energised and life giving, challenging and empowering; our young people deserve nothing less than the best, and an education that is relevant, contemporary and engaging so that they develop a love of learning and a spirit of curiosity. At St Joseph’s I have a great foundation and tradition on which to build and will work with the community to reflect on what we do and how to ensure that we continue to provide excellent educational opportunities.’
Welcoming Dr Hewson, was the first official role for the new group of Senior Leaders. These students were elected by students and staff and we wish them all the very best as they work together over the next 12 months to represent and lead the school. We congratulate School Captains, Millie Russell and Jamie Doudle, along with Vice-Captains, Abby Ryan, Chloe Orchard, Sam Dawson and Charlie Muecke.
