Position Overview 

 

You will inspire and educate students to develop lifelong skills in fitness, health, and wellbeing by designing and delivering engaging lessons that promote physical activity, teamwork, and sportsmanship while fostering an understanding of the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle. You will assess students’ progress, support individual development, and coordinate school sports programs, events, and extracurricular activities. In addition to teaching fundamental skills in various sports and physical activities, they play a vital role in encouraging confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset in students.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

You will collaborate with leaders, colleagues, and parents to enhance student learning and support education reform.

 

  • Applying effective curriculum knowledge and teaching methods.
  • Ensuring an inclusive learning environment that meets diverse learner needs.
  • Developing positive working relationships.
  • Creating relevant learning programs, including personalised plans as needed.
  • Assessing and reporting on student progress.
  • Establishing processes for a productive classroom.
  • Implementing behavior management strategies for a safe learning space.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of student information.
  • Taking on additional non-instructional duties as required.

 

Specific Requirements

 

  • A current Teacher's Registration in South Australia
  • Working With Children Check
  • A Catholic Police Clearance for working within Catholic Education SA. (to be initiated for successful candidates)
  • Current valid Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care certificate.
  • Approved Mandatory Notification training.
  • Applicable First Aid Certificate relevant to the role requirements.  (Provide First Aid in a School Setting)

You are an experienced Physical Education Teacher who: 

 

  • Can commit to the values and ethos of Catholic Education. 
  • Actively supports the College’s mission and values.
  • Has a genuine commitment and motivation for Teaching
  • Has strong teaching and classroom behaviour management skills.

Ten years ago, a unique cross-sector initiative between Catholic, public and independent schools in South Australia was established to certify teachers as Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers (HALT).

Fast forward to November 2024 and Catholic Education SA (CESA) is delighted to announce its 100th certified HALT teacher; Penny Bateman, from Xavier College, Gawler Belt campus. Penny, who holds the position of English Curriculum Leader, began her teaching career in 2021 and started her HALT certification this year. Receiving HALT certification means that Penny will now be able to mentor colleagues in the process and provide expert guidance on evidence-based teaching practices while fostering professional growth within her department.

Four Catholic schools across South Australia have been awarded $6.34 million in grants for capital works to improve learning spaces, increase opportunities for disadvantaged students and cater for more diverse learning needs.

The State Government grants — $6.34 million for Catholic schools and $6.38 million for independent schools — are for building projects to commence over the next year.

Introduced in 2018 to ensure all students have access to a first-class education, the latest funding under the scheme has been approved for four projects at Catholic schools and 103 smaller projects at independent schools.
