Christian Brothers College students will be greeted with two newly constructed Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Laboratories. The construction of the CBC Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics facility coincides with the January 2016 release of the national paper: ‘Transforming STEM teaching in Australian primary schools: everybody’s business’ by the Office of Australia’s Chief Scientist.
The Office of the Chief Scientist states: Australia invests in education and research for many reasons. But top of the list is the critical role they have in ensuring the continued prosperity of Australia on all fronts – socially, culturally and economically – for all our citizens and for our place in the world.
College Principal Mr Noel Mifsud said that the facility will provide the College’s 1300 students with contemporary education, knowledge, innovation and influence to acquire skills and experience critical to life and work in the 21st Century.
Integral to the development of the CBC STEM laboratories was the utilisation of cutting edge innovation in technology including green screen capability which provides image or video streaming to aid in the teaching of subjects such as aviation, media, Physics and Chemistry.
Lego-tronics, robotics and a Uni Train system integral to the study of electro technology and specifically alternative power sources will complement the existing CBC Trade Training Centre developed in 2013 and located on the senior campus in Wakefield Street Adelaide.
Significant community consultation together with extensive international research with project partner Kon Michael from Swanbury Penglase architects ensured the project remained student centred and visionary.
