Celebrating Student Achievement

There were 672 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in 84 Catholic schools across South Australia at the end of 2015. We acknowledge the great work being done by schools to nurture and support the well-being and success of their students at school and beyond.


The 2015 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cohort achieved a 97% SACE completion rate and Gabriella Onorato from Nazareth Catholic College who achieved a SACE Merit Award.
The outstanding student achievements of 2015 are indeed worthy of celebration. Sincere congratulations to all these students.

The following students were School Leaders: Dre Ngatokorua, Captain in 2015 at Sacred Heart College Senior School; Brooke Lovegrove, Co-Captain 2016 at Kildare College; Kalyan Rigney, College Leader 2016 at St. Michael's College; Joeulla Coulthard, House Captain (Sec.) in 2016 also Delson Gaston House Captain (Prim.) 2016 at Samaritan College and Patrick MacLoughlin Prefect in 2016 at St Francis De Sales College.

School Awards went to: Mia Toomey-Steven Yr 7, the St Francis Spirit Award at St Francis School Lockleys; at Kildare College Shara Davey Yr 11, an Indigenous School-based Traineeship – Cert 3 in business with Comm. Bank, Brooke Lovegrove, Yr 12
Indigenous School-based Traineeship – Cert 3 in business with Comm. Bank and  also Tayla Hammer, Yr 11 Indigenous School-based Traineeship – Cert 3 in business with National Australia Bank. At Samaritan College, Joeulla Coulthard, Yr 12 - Female Sportsperson of the Year, Mikayla Huish-Micheluzzi, Yr 12 History Prize and Nellie Cowan -Year 12 SRC, 2016. At St Francis De Sales College Brea-May Kay, Yr 8  Endeavour Award (Academic),Shanna MacLoughlin, Yr 9  Principal’s Award, Patrick MacLoughlin Yr 11 Principals Award and Isaiah Brown Yr 9 - Heart Award (Faith). At St Michael’s College, Kalyan Rigney, Yr 12 Academic Achievement Award (Yr 11) and an Indigenous School-based Traineeship – Cert 3 in Business with National Australia Bank

Community Awards/ Achievements went to Loreto College Artworks by Aboriginal members of RAP group displayed in Our Young Mob exhibition at Adelaide Festival Centre and at Samaritan College, Nellie Cowan Yr 11 - Graeme Jose Spirit of Whyalla Community Award 2015.

State/National Achievements: Kildare College, Shara Davey Yr 10 - SA Indigenous Schoolgirls Australian Rules Football team. Samaritan College, Joeulla Coulthard, Yr 12
Inaugural Raise the Bar Academy at University of Melbourne - 1 of 36 Aboriginal students selected nationally.

Twenty students from Catholic schools in South Australia have been named among the winners in two major state-wide Humanities competitions.

Earlier this year, senior school students from across South Australia were invited to enter the 2024 Premier’s Anzac Spirit School Prize and the Muriel Matters Awards.
