Kildare College is celebrating 50 years of excellence in girls’ education in 2016.
The establishment of Kildare College in Holden Hill will always be a significant event in the history of the Brigidine Congregation as it was and still is the only Brigidine Secondary College in South Australia. Kildare was established at the request of Archbishop Beovich to fill the need for a Catholic girls’ secondary school in the rapidly developing north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide in the 1960s.
Kildare opened with 32 first year students in the second week of February 1966 and was officially opened by Archbishop Gleeson on 13 March 1966. Almost 50 years later to the day, on March 16 2016, the past and current College community will join together at a mass at St Francis Xavier cathedral celebrated by Archbishop Wilson. Later in the year, a High Tea and Celebration Dinner will be held to reflect over the past 50 years and look forward to the future.
