Students and staff from Christian Brothers' Colleges joined the community at St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, Adelaide for Mass today in honour of St Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland and of the Adelaide Archdiocese. It is believed that St Patrick took Christianity to Ireland and many people around the world with Celtic inks attribute their faith to this heritage.
Christian Brothers College, St Paul’s College and Rostrevor College have Irish heritage through Edmund Rice, their Irish founder. So along with other Catholic schools and parishes the Colleges celebrate St Patrick’s Days with prayer, liturgy and music. Many wear a little green - the shamrock being a symbol of faith in one God: Father, Son and Spirit.
Christ be in all hearts thinking about me,
Christ be on all tongues telling of me.
Christ be the vision in eyes that see me,
in ears that hear me Christ ever be.
Excerpt from St Patrick’s Breastplate. James Quinn SJ 1919
