For the 14th year, Catholic Education SA had a team participating in Relay for Life event held on the weekend of 30th April at the Adelaide Showgrounds, along with 100 other teams.
The opening ceremony was at 2.00pm on the Saturday afternoon with survivors and their carers participating in the first lap and then the team members, in relay groups, walked for 19 hours.
To keep up the spirits and to spur on the walkers there were bands on the main stage along with some dance performers on and off during the day and a range of other entertainment around the grounds.
The candlelight ceremony, held at 8pm is one of the most moving parts of the event, when we honoured our survivors, those undergoing treatment and a special way to remember loved ones lost to cancer. Teams around the grounds prepared their own special candle tribute bags either in memory or to support those living with cancer.
Family and friends of the CESA Relay team helped to raise over $6,470.
Team Captain Carolyn Reed was once again grateful to colleagues, family and friends for their support of Relay for Life team. This now increases the total raised by the CESA Relay team to over $112,000 in 14 years.
“This is just an amazing effort and I can’t thank you enough for helping us to raise this for the Cancer Council”, said Carolyn.
Every dollar raised at Relay for Life helps Cancer Council to:
• Investigate new ways to prevent, detect and treat cancers
• Educate people in our community about ways they can reduce their cancer risk
• Advocate for cancer control
• Support people during their times of greatest need.
Twenty students from Catholic schools in South Australia have been named among the winners in two major state-wide Humanities competitions.
Earlier this year, senior school students from across South Australia were invited to enter the 2024 Premier’s Anzac Spirit School Prize and the Muriel Matters Awards.
