Andrew ‘Çosi’ Costello paid a visit to St Francis de Sales College, Mount Barker, where he told horticulture students Harry and Maria about the potential for jobs in Australia’s burgeoning grains industry.
Students learnt about the variety of careers in the grains sector and Education Officer Sarah MacDonnell said the industry had a strong outlook underpinned by one simple truth... People are always going to need to eat. Australia has a tremendous potential to become a food bowl for a number of booming Asian economies.
Horticulture student Maria said she had never considered a career in agriculture but was impressed by how high-tech modern farming could be:
“They use so much new technology now on the farm, it sounds like it could be a really interesting job and maybe something I would consider in the future”, Maria said.
