St Francis de Sales College, Mount Barker has been awarded a State government grant of $960 000 to assist with the building of a new Sports Hub for school and community use.
This grant is from the Community Recreation and Sport Facility Program: $4.18million shared by 26 sport and recreation organisations across South Australia.
As these significant sporting grants were announced by the State Government, Sport Minister Leon Bignell said:
“The State Government supports sport at all levels, from grassroots through to elite and this funding package, along with Community and Recreation and Sport Facilities Program, will go a long way towards ensuring we encourage South Australians take part in sports they love.”
Helen O’Brien, Director of Catholic Education SA congratulated the College, “This is a wonderful achievement for the school and the community”, she said.
Principal of St Francis de Sales College, Pam Ronan, is delighted for both the College and the Mount Barker community to receive this contribution towards the development of the Sports Hub. Pam said:
“There is strong community support for the facility as well as high demand for venues that can cater for regional, and even national sporting and community events.
“ The soccer and basketball academies at the College will enable aspiring champions to strive for even greater excellence, and the four courts will also be used by the growing numbers of students at St Francis de Sales undertaking dance, drama and music”, she said.
Congratulations to three students from Our Lady Queen of Peace School, Albert Park who were announced yesterday, Monday 18 November, as the national winners of the Kids in Space program.
Year 6 students Zahlia, Amelia, and Charlotte competed against 10 other team finalists, presenting their space related design projects that were created using the 3D design app and 3D printing program at their school. The winning design was in response to finding a solution to the growing issue of ‘space junk’.
