Collaborative Childhood Project at St Margaret Mary's

Since the beginning of 2016 St Margaret Mary’s School has been one of four Catholic schools to be involved in The South Australian Collaborative Childhood Project.  Through this Project, the School has continued to explore how the Principles of the Reggio Emilia Educational Project (Italy) can support our work in the South Australian context.

As part of the Collaborative Childhood Project, we were recently delighted to host two experts from Italy, Paola (pedagogista) and Max (atelierista). The visitors were very impressed with St Margaret Mary’s classroom environments as well as the outdoor learning and play spaces.  They also commented on the quality of the learning that the students are participating in, along with the Year 6 and 7s using technology to help with their learning.  They also commented that students all looked “alive and happy”.  The visitors were disappointed that they could not stay longer, as they would have loved the opportunity to have more time to sit and talk to the students and observe their learning.

The South Australian Collaborative Childhood Project is a state wide network that works in partnership with Reggio Children to develop an original approach that builds on quality practices and is inspired by the twelve principles of Reggio Emilia.

St Margaret Mary’s School is proud to be a part of the Collaborative Childhood Project and excited about the possibilities that this involvement brings to the school community.
