Senator the Hon. Simon Birmingham, Federal Minister for Education and Training has launched SA’s first P-TECH pilot program at St Patrick’s Technical College.
At the launch the Minister spoke about the high level of skill development that P-TECH will provide. He said that it is a pathways in technologies model involving the development of advanced STEM skills. This involves an applied approach using science, technology, engineering and maths.
“Importantly P-TECH is about local connections with business and industry providing a pipeline of well-prepared employees”, the Minister said.
“Partners from industry and business are looking for STEM enriched, career ready people”, he said.
The P-TECH pilot builds on St Patrick’s approach including mentoring, workplace visits and industry collaboration. The College has strong links with business and industry partners including Defence Teaming Industries. St Patrick’s is one of 12 recipient schools nation-wide and will receive $350 000 towards the program.
The launch on Friday 2 September was held at the St Patrick’s Technical College’s annual lunch marking National Skills Week.
Twenty students from Catholic schools in South Australia have been named among the winners in two major state-wide Humanities competitions.
