Helen reflects on a school visit:
Recently I visited Immaculate Heart of Mary School at Brompton to meet the staff, visit classrooms and to hear about the developments at the school. This relatively small school, tucked away in the western suburbs is everything that we would hope for a Catholic school!
Pauline Kinsman is enjoying her second year as principal and her influence on the learning agenda in every classroom is palpable. I was able to see the children learning through investigation, conversation and play. I was mightily impressed with the Reception children who went to great lengths to demonstrate their skills in mathematics. Smart children: I couldn’t trick them!
The staff lead in developing a religious identity with theology of the heart at its centre. This attention to an environment where every child matters and the staff are committed to one another is a clear demonstration of their religious identity.
I was delighted to meet a range of external people from Flinders University, Charles Darwin University and other agencies who contribute to the wellbeing of the young people through their volunteer work and their own on-site learning. This is a community that influences beyond its local boundaries.
Pauline, the staff, children and parent community should feel very proud of their school. It is a wonderful place for young people and others to be.
I felt uplifted by being there for that short time. Congratulations!
Twenty students from Catholic schools in South Australia have been named among the winners in two major state-wide Humanities competitions.
Earlier this year, senior school students from across South Australia were invited to enter the 2024 Premier’s Anzac Spirit School Prize and the Muriel Matters Awards.
