Talented student artists, Year 8-12, along with their Art/ Design/ Technology teachers from Thomas More College, Salisbury, attended their exhibition launch at the Catholic Education Office at Thebarton on 19 September.
Helen O’Brien, Director of Catholic Education SA, congratulated the artists on their amazing creativity and skilled techniques.
“Keep opening that artistic space within you,” she said.
Helen spoke of art’s ability to nurture us. Quoting Picasso: “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls,” she said.
Helen thanked the artists for allowing their art to be showcased in the foyer, enriching the lives of staff and visitors.
The students engaged in deep conversations with staff members who were enthralled by the works of art. Staff heard about the inspiration for individual works and the techniques employed. Students in turn were thrilled with the appreciation of the staff and their genuine interest in their work.
Paul Kralj, Art Coordinator, recognised the value for students in having their works of art formally displayed in a gallery-setting.
Along with appreciating the works of art exhibited, there was lively conversation and sharing of delicious refreshments.
Congratulations to three students from Our Lady Queen of Peace School, Albert Park who were announced yesterday, Monday 18 November, as the national winners of the Kids in Space program.
Year 6 students Zahlia, Amelia, and Charlotte competed against 10 other team finalists, presenting their space related design projects that were created using the 3D design app and 3D printing program at their school. The winning design was in response to finding a solution to the growing issue of ‘space junk’.
