Marymount proud football premiers

Marymount College has been very successful in both Year 6/7 and Year 8/9 girls’ State Knockout Football by winning premierships year after year. The Year 6/7 team has won the school’s seventh premiership in eight years and for the third year in a row, Marymount's Year 8/9 Football team has been crowned as Girls' State Knockout Football Champions. Both teams are coached by Dennis McEvoy, who has been at Marymount College for a number of years. Dennis plays for the Mitcham Hawks Football Club.

On 28 September, the Marymount Year 6/7 team defeated Westbourne Park Primary School in the Grand Final of the SAPSASA Girls’ Knockout Football Championship at Woodville Oval. Despite the very windy conditions, Marymount played well and won the game by 36 points. This team did not concede a single goal throughout their 2016 Knockout Championship campaign.

The Marymount Year 8/9 team convincingly defeated Glossop High School in the Grand Final of the Year 8/9 SSSSA Girls’ Knockout Football Championship at Glenelg Oval on 24 August winning by a margin of 36 points.

Coach Dennis sees that the Team has a bright future:

“We look forward to the Year 9 girls moving on to Sacred Heart College next year and contributing to the Open Girls Knockout Football team," he said.

To celebrate both of the football teams winning premierships, Marymount College had a week-long celebration at lunchtimes in Week 10 of Term 3. The girls were able to participate in ‘marks up’, ‘kick-to-kick’ and ‘long kick’ competitions and on 30 September, the girls wore their favourite footy team colours to school.

Marymount College is looking forward to seeing some of their old scholars playing AFL Football for the Adelaide Crows or Port Power in the future!
