Strengthening a Team of Leaders

Dr Stephen Brown, founder and Director of The Brown Collective, facilitated another successful program for teachers across schools in the Port Pirie diocese. Staff from St Joseph's School, Barmera, Mary MacKillop School, Wallaroo, St Joseph's School, Pt Lincoln, St Marks College, Pt Pirie and Caritas College, Pt Augusta worked with Stephen for two days in April and again during the October term break.

The course enabled participants to gain theoretical and practical leadership knowledge and strategies. Each participant developed a project relating to their role at school and worked with world-acclaimed leadership coaches Emeritus Professor Patrick Duignan or Dr Kerry McKenna. They reflected on the leadership applied throughout the 6-month course, and presented their learning to the group.

School leaders explored their personal leadership attributes, ways of working with others, the skills needed for relationships-based leadership which focuses on enhancing student learning and reflected on their leadership in the context of their roles. The final presentations of projects demonstrated a deep understanding and practical application of outstanding leadership, which has resulted in effective, sustainable initiatives being implemented across each school.

This program, supported by Catholic Education SA and Caritas College over the past four years, is strategically aimed at developing strong leadership in schools for current and future years.

Nichii Mardon, Principal of Caritas College, recognised the important role played by Stephen Brown:

“We are particularly indebted to Stephen Brown and the coaches who have worked with course participants. Stephen’s passion, deep knowledge and expert facilitation skills, and his generosity in customising a program that is contextualised and relevant have ensured long-lasting learning for those who have undertaken the program,” Nichii said.
