On 27 October Cardijn College’s Year 11 students organised and ran a sporting carnival as part of their Stage 1 Academy assessment where students were required to plan, manage and reflect on the carnival. This event, called the 2016 Academy Cup involved students from Galilee, All Saints, Emmaus and Antonio Primary Schools, who came together at Cardijn College and competed in mixed football, netball and soccer. The carnival was a participation based event with the aim to encourage good sportsmanship, to teach students how to win well and lose graciously, and to foster positive relationships between competitors while promoting a healthy active lifestyle.
The Cardijn Sports Academy students were responsible for the overall management and delivery of the carnival under the supervision of the Academy teachers. This included the setup of playing fields and facilities, umpiring matches, providing coaching and also scoring games.
The carnival was a huge success and it was enjoyed by all who were involved, with noticeable improvement in the ability of the athletes. With such a high level of success the cup may just become an annual event at Cardijn!
