Cardijn College was fortunate to host the 2017 Catholic Schools Launch of Project Compassion on Tuesday 21 February. Held at our local Catholic Parish Church, St Luke's, we celebrated this occasion with students and staff representatives from the Catholic schools within the Southern Vales Region. These included, Galilee, All Saints, St John the Apostle, Antonio, Emmaus and Marcellin Technical College. We were privileged to have the Most Reverend Archbishop Philip Wilson attend and launch this year’s Project Compassion appeal, who in the Liturgy drew on the parable of the Good Samaritan.
Archbishop Wilson spoke of how we can see and learn through the actions of the Good Samaritan, what it means to love one’s neighbour. This of course connected us with the theme Caritas Australia has chosen for this year’s Project Compassion appeal - “Love your Neighbour”. We will be exploring this further throughout Lent, especially by hearing and seeing the work that Caritas is doing in countries such as the Philippines, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Fiji and Australia. By being involved in Project Compassion, we hope to accomplish an end to poverty, promote justice and uphold human dignity. During Lent, we will encourage students to involve themselves in supporting this worthy cause and inspire them to love their neighbour and consider their relationships with others.
