In July 2017 students, staff and the wider community celebrated the opening of a new outdoor undercover learning area at Mary MacKillop Memorial School.
“The multipurpose shelter will improve the physical environment and learning culture of the school,” says Principal, Maureen Hanrahan.
“The undercover area will make a huge difference to our students both when it pours with rain and during the heat of summer.”
Fr Paul’s Shelter is named after Father Paul Gardiner who touched the lives of many in the school, parish and wider community and was instrumental in the canonisation of Mary MacKillop.
“The Federal Government provided a $185,000 grant through the Capital Grants Program,” explains Maureen. “We are very thankful for that support.”
The official opening ceremony was attended by Archbishop Philip Wilson, Member for Barker, Tony Pasin, Chair of the school board, Nick Zema, Catholic Education SA representative, Steve Genesin, Father Dean Marin and Wattle Range mayor, Peter Gandolfi and members of the school community.
