Teachers ready to help students flourish

In 2018, a number of teachers and leaders were involved in the Middle Years Network as secondary schools prepare for the move of Year 7s in 2019. These teachers inquired into learning, pedagogy and wellbeing that encourages the Middle Years’ learner to thrive and flourish. The main aim of this network has been to help participants develop a deeper understanding of the developmental changes that occur in adolescence and the implications this has for teaching in the Middle Years.

On Monday November 12, the network presented and celebrated their learning and leadership at a culminating expo at Nazareth Catholic College. The involvement in this network has evidenced schools’ genuine commitment to Year 7 Transition and Middle Years pedagogical practices. The 13 schools pursued research in three distinct themes: Middle Years-Distinct Identity and Quality teaching, Parent, Family and Community Involvement, Student Wellbeing and Student Leadership.

As Term 1 2019 approaches, schools are excited and well prepared for CESA’s Year 7 transition initiative and to share their ongoing learning with our wider education community.
