Highly Accomplished Teachers Awarded

Three Catholic Education SA teachers have been awarded by the Department of Education for achieving Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher status.

An award ceremony was held at the Stamford Plaza Adelaide to celebrate highly accomplished and lead teachers. The ceremony is a cross-sectoral event with teachers represented from Catholic Education, Department of Education and the Independent sectors.

The ceremony is held to present certificates of certification to teachers who have achieved Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher status, and for the first time this year, to teachers who have renewed their teaching certification after 5 years. The certificates were presented by Rick Persse, Chief Executive Officer from the Department of Education.

Two Catholic teachers were represented. Louise Eldridge from Thomas More College Salisbury Downs was acknowledged as a highly accomplished teacher and Domenique Laurendi from Star of the Sea Henley Beach was recognised for renewing her status as a Highly Accomplished teacher.

Since the award ceremony, Lydia Line from Samaritan College Whyalla has been certified as a Lead Teacher. Lydia is the third teacher from Samaritan College to gain this level of achievement.

Achieving this level of certification is a rigorous process, requiring the teachers involved to reflect on their practice and show evidence of their impact on colleagues and students across the 7 standards and 37 descriptors of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. These descriptors include knowing their students and how they learn, the content and how to teach it, and creating and maintaining supportive and safe learning environments, amongst others.

A highly accomplished teacher is described by the Australian Institute for teaching and School leadership (AITSL) as a highly effective and skilled classroom practitioner who routinely works independently and collaboratively to improve their practice and the practice of colleagues.

Congratulations to Louise, Domenique and Lydia on achieving these certifications.
