Old scholars granted Country Teaching Scholarships

Catholic Education SA (CESA) through the South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools provides Catholic Country Teaching Scholarships to encourage and attract teaching students who are passionate about commencing a teaching career in Catholic country schools.

Up to five scholarships are offered each year to eligible third- or fourth-year undergraduate teacher students or graduates completing a post graduate teacher education program at South Australian universities, including the University of South Australia, the University of Adelaide, Flinders University and Tabor College.

The purpose of the scholarships is to support South Australian students who are equally as passionate about establishing a life and a teaching career in the country.

The scholarships also assist in promoting and attracting key talent to our Catholic country schools. CESA is passionate about education in our country areas and as part of this we aim to encourage and support the best teachers to work in our country schools.

As part of the application process, scholarship candidates must demonstrate an ability and willingness to teach in Catholic country schools, understand and actively support the Catholic ethos and have a demonstrated passion to live and teach in the country.

In 2019, Thomas Charlton and Tyler Nield have been granted Country Teaching Scholarships for 2019-2020.

Tom is completing the fourth year of a Bachelor of Education (Primary/Middle) at the University of South Australia. Tom completed his primary and secondary education through Catholic Education SA at St Joseph’s School, Port Lincoln.

Tyler is completing his Masters of Secondary Teaching (Postgraduate) at the University of South Australia and completed his primary education at St Joseph’s School, Clare.

CESA extends its congratulations to Thomas and Tyler, both high quality recipients who will serve our school communities in the future and we look forward to both joining one of our country schools on the completion of their tertiary studies.

As part of Catholic Education SA’s commitment to providing a quality education in all Catholic schools regardless of the location, in addition to the Scholarship Program we also offer a range of teaching incentives in order to provide further benefit to a teaching career in the country. Incentives include reimbursement of moving costs, establishment grants, additional non-contact time and more.

Choosing a career in country teaching is about a lifestyle as much as a rewarding career in teaching. For further information about country teaching incentives or the Country Teacher Scholarship program please contact David Kerr, Catholic Education SA Senior Adviser Human Resources at david.kerr@cesa.catholic.edu.au or phone 08 8301 6802.
