Construction of Catholic Education SA’s newest school at Two Wells will commence next month.
The school will be a campus of Xavier College and will initially cater for students from Reception to Year 6. It will grow to become a R – 12 College catering for upwards of 1000 students.
Excitement in the Two Wells community is growing. Stakeholders gathered recently to “turn the sod” as the school prepares to welcome its first students at the start of the 2021 school year.
Stage one of the multi-million project – a $9.875M building development – will bring a much-needed boost to the local economy. The school project is expected to be a $80 million venture across five stages of development.
Catholic Education SA has announced that Mossop Constructions will be the builder for the new school.
Land Australia, part of the Hickinbotham group, and the Sharpe Family, who have a connection with Two Wells going back over many generations, donated the land on which the school will be built in the Liberty Estate at Two Wells.
“We are pleased to be working in partnership with Land Australia, Mossop Constructions and Edge Architects on this exciting development that will meet the needs of the growing population in Two Wells and the surrounding area,” said Professor Denis Ralph, Chair, South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools.
Land Australia’s Managing Director, Mr Michael Hickinbotham, said it was fantastic the school was commencing construction.
“The new campus will further underpin a growing and successful Two Wells community and the new Eden and Liberty residential developments while providing high calibre education for newly arriving families and wider region” he said.
And those sentiments are shared by the builders, Mossop Construction Plus Interiors.
“We are thrilled to be involved in the construction of the new Xavier College Two Wells Campus after a successful project delivery for Catholic Education SA of the McAuley Community School at Hove,” said Grant Mossop, Director of Construction.
The excitement is shared by the Xavier College community. Acting Principal, Mr Mark Flaherty, said “Xavier College is very excited to be expanding our offering of authentic, affordable Catholic education in the area and looks forward to meeting our new families as we grow within our new local community.”
Year 12 College Captains, Ethan White and Rebekah Harris, joined students-in-waiting Layla Barber and Parker Harris at the “turning of the sod” ceremony.
“It is hard to believe that 25 years ago Xavier College looked like this – just dirt – so it is exciting to imagine what will be here in 25 years from now,” said Ethan.
“My younger brother Nicholas will start here next year,” added Rebekah.
“It has been great to be part of the Xavier Community – it is like being part of a family. I’m really pleased that now younger children – children from Reception to Year 6 - will have the same opportunity.”
And Cindy Barber, whose daughter, Layla, will start at the school next year agrees.
“I’m excited to see a new school in our community – not just for myself, but for what it will mean for Layla’s future.”
