Farewell to CESA Staff from the Director, Paul Sharkey

It is a sad moment for me to be saying farewell to colleagues who have become friends over these past 17 years in Catholic Education in South Australia – the last four of which have been as Director.  Our sector is filled with people of high integrity and great talent.  The mission we share is hard to beat, in terms of making a difference to the world and the students who have been entrusted to us.

I want to thank all of the people I have worked closely with – there are so many of you, spanning so many years, that I cannot name you all.  You know who you are and I hope you know too something of the difference you have made.  I can see it so clearly, particularly now as I am leaving.  I want even to acknowledge those of you that I don’t know personally.  I see you working with your students and I am always uplifted by the care and expertise that you bring so obviously to your work.

Although I move to a challenging and life-giving role in the Melbourne Catholic Education Office and although I am moving back to my roots in terms of family and upbringing, it is a wrench to be going nonetheless.  I will miss the vitality and intimacy of our sector, even as I welcome what is to come in my new home.

Christmas is a great time to be leaving.  Not only is it the time when our school year ends and each of us goes our own way over the Summer, it is a time when we prepare ourselves to celebrate the great feast of the incarnation where we experience once again the mystery that God has become one of us in Jesus.  I pray you experience the grace of that mystery, not only this Christmas but in all of your days.

Paul
