Josiah Whillas, a graduate of St Joseph’s School Port Lincoln, has won the 2020 Kathleen McPhee Music Scholarship.
The Kathleen McPhee Scholarship was established in memory of Kathleen McPhee who died in February 2001. Kathleen requested that a sum of money be set aside from her estates to enable a scholarship to be established to help students of music continue their studies at tertiary level.
“The scholarship, which is to the value of $1,000, is a significant contribution to supporting the successful applicant in undertaking their tertiary studies in music,” said Peter Bierer, Coordinator, Catholic Office for Youth and Young Adults at the scholarship presentation ceremony in July 2021.
Peter described Josiah as a worthy winner.
“Josiah has commenced a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at the Elder Conservatorium of Music. He is a pianist, guitarist, and singer, and composes his own music. Josiah is incredibly generous with his time, and throughout his schooling was always volunteering and helping other students. He has a friendly and polite personality and his passion for music and helping others is admirable.”
Josiah was joined by his grandparents, parents and siblings as he was presented with a certificate at the award ceremony held at the Catholic Education Office. The ceremony was also attended by Felicity Millerd, daughter of Kathleen McPhee.
Congratulations to Josiah on winning the annual music scholarship.
