Three Catholic schools have been named among the finalists in the 2021 SA Training Awards!
The South Australian Training Awards celebrate excellence in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and acknowledge the achievements of the best and brightest students, trainers, training providers, schools and employers in South Australia.
We are delighted to congratulate the 2021 SA Training Awards Finalists from Catholic schools:
VET Innovation for Schools Award
Christian Brothers College, Adelaide
School Based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year
Samuel Ivanoff – Year 12 student at St Patrick’s Technical College, Edinburgh North
VET Teacher or Trainer of the Year
Justin Mamo – Cardijn College/ MTC Training
Christian Brothers College is one of four finalists in the running for the VET Innovation for Schools award. This award recognises excellence in schools that are developing innovative and new mechanisms for encouraging vocational education and training (VET) pathways in their schools so that their models and programs can be publicised and shared with schools across the state.
Year 12 student Samuel Ivanoff is among four finalists in the School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year.
Samuel is undertaking a school-based apprenticeship in Applied Technologies. From a young age, Samuel could regularly be found building constructions from boxes and Lego – later discovering house plans and falling in love with designing.
“I dreamed of designing a building that would actually be built one day, and I am currently working on designing a house that my parents are hoping to build in the future,” he says.
“My school teachers have also encouraged me to push myself and keep looking for an opportunity that suits me, and for that I'm grateful. I wouldn't be where I am today without people believing in me and supporting my dreams.”
Justin Mamo, Training Manager at Cardijn College’s MTC Training, is a finalist in the VET Teacher or Trainer of the Year category.
Justin sees his role in training the next generation of tradespeople as ‘more than a job’ – instead, he views it as an opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people.
“Training the next generation of tradespeople is more than a job for me – it is about creating the love of work, developing skills, solving problems and teamwork,” says Justin. “Seeing students and apprentices produce quality outcomes they are proud of, and that exceed industry expectations, is satisfying and validates that I am making a difference.”
The award winners will be announced on Friday 27 August at a special event at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. We congratulate Samuel, Justin and Christian Brothers College and wish them the very best of luck!
You can vote online for Samuel and Justin in the Voters Choice Awards. Voting closes midnight Sunday August 22.
