Catholic Education South Australia congratulates the “Class of 2021” on their outstanding SACE results. 3,403 Catholic school graduates from across 33 Catholic Schools have obtained their SACE.
“This year’s student cohort can be very proud of their achievements. They have been faced with COVID-19 restrictions and other challenges, yet they have faced them head-on and not allowed them to be a barrier to success,” said Dr Neil McGoran, Director of Catholic Education SA.
Highlights include:
“I congratulate the graduating students of 2021 on their achievements. They have demonstrated incredible determination and resilience during what has been a challenging year. Thank you to the students’ families who have been alongside them throughout this year and throughout their thirteen years of schooling.”
Dr McGoran also paid tribute to the dedicated teachers and school staff who have supported this year’s cohort.
“Thank you for your tenacity and collegiality during the year. There have been many challenges, but you have overcome them with such grace and goodwill.”

SACE Board Chief Executive Professor Martin Westwell acknowledged the outstanding efforts of SACE students while contending with the disruption of COVID-19 and the flow-on effects within schools. A record number of 15,644 students have completed their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) this year.
“The Class of 2021 has had more to contend with than any other cohort over the years, and yet they have risen to the challenge,” said Professor Westwell.
“This year we have seen the highest level of retention through to final SACE completion than ever before.
“Students have demonstrated that they have developed their personal capabilities and have adapted, drawn upon their resilience and continued to find solutions and thrive.”
Mereceds College, Springfield offers the opportunity for students to undertake the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, a senior secondary program that is administered globally. 17 students completed their IB Diploma in 2021. An additional 14 SACE students completed an IB subject as part of their SACE studies.

Year 12 can be a juggle at the best of times, but Year 12 student Shantae Barnes-Cowan from Samaritan College, Whyalla has taken multi-tasking during her last year of schooling to a whole new level.
The 18-year-old actress, who is an Adnyamathanha woman from Whyalla, has filmed two movies and a mini-series on sets in Queensland, Western Australia, Coober Pedy and Adelaide while completing her Year 12 studies!
