Over 25 reception children celebrated their 100th day at St Anthony’s School Edwardstown today! This morning students and staff dressed as 100 year olds, made paper chains with 100 loops, built a castle out of 100 paper cups and made crowns to wear showing 100 candles on a cake. Students were set the challenge of building something out of 100 foam noodle pieces, 100 coloured sticks and painting one hundred dots in sets of 10.
Teachers of the R/1 class Kerry and Amberley explained that this week the children are considering the past and the present; their number work will explore 100. For some students this will mean learning to count as many as they can, or simply appreciating that 100 is a big number. Artwork will see numerals turned into pictures and writing tasks will be around the 100 theme.
One five year old wore a grey moustache and wig and said they were very fluffy. A couple of the girls wore old broaches, one was adorned with a pearl necklace and another had rollers in her hair! Shawls and walking sticks were ‘order of the day’ and one young ‘100 year’ old even had a smoking pipe - fortunately it was not lit!
There was plenty of laughter as the students considered being 100 years old. At St Anthony’s school the community celebrates: we laugh; we love; we learn; we listen and we lead. There was great evidence of these values in the school today.
