Catholic Education Week was celebrated in South Australia from May 9-15 2022 (Week 2, Term 2).
Catholic Education Week is an annual opportunity to celebrate the excellent teaching and learning that happens in Catholic schools every day.
In 2022, the week had a particular focus on saying ‘thank you’.
Without doubt, COVID-19 continues to challenge schools like never before – students, families and staff alike – but there is also much for which we can give thanks; and much for which we can be proud.
So, during Catholic Education Week 2022, Catholic schools from right across SA joined together to say ‘thank you’ to all the hard-working people that make our Catholic schools so special.
Catholic Education SA asked schools to join with them via social media in saying ‘thank you’, in a campaign designed to celebrate the staff and teachers in Catholic schools that contribute so much.
During the week, a series of social media posts encouraged school communities – parents, students, teachers and alumni – to comment and post ‘thank you’ messages or memories about a staff member or teacher that they cherish.
Schools also said ‘thank you’ in their own unique ways to the people that make their communities special.
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Port Pirie had a shared ‘Who is my neighbour?’ theme. Students undertook neighbourly acts such as collecting items for the Vinnies Winter Appeal, cleaning an area in the local environment, donating cans of food to a local foodbank and making cards for people in aged care.
Dr Neil McGoran, Director, Catholic Education South Australia, joined with schools to give thanks.
“Thank you to all staff in our schools for keeping the focus on students, and on their learning, wellbeing and spiritual development to ensure excellence in Catholic Education. You and the many gifts that you bring are greatly admired and appreciated,” said Dr McGoran.
In a first for Catholic Education South Australia, twelve educators (and a dog!) have been recognised at the inaugural Catholic Education Awards ceremony on May 12. The Awards recognise outstanding achievements and contributions by staff and volunteers across South Australia’s 103 Catholic schools.
