Strategy coming to life

Schools continue to embrace the key actions outlined in the Strategy for Leading Catholic Education to New Levels of Excellence. The strategy’s 10 actions aim to strengthen and transform the presence of Catholic education in South Australia.

Action 4: Regional guidelines and protocols explores how schools can work towards greater collaboration. In recent weeks, a number of local Catholic schools brought this action to life as they teamed up on some unique projects.

Five Catholic schools in the eastern suburbs worked together during August on a shared open week and student leadership forum. It was the first time the schools have held their open days in a common week. They undertook shared promotion and marketing which drew greater attention to the schools’ activities.

Another three schools - St Thomas Goodwood, St Joseph’s Kingswood and St Therese Colonel Light Gardens - have taken collaboration to a whole new level as they implement a shared uniform initiative. The venture, which sees students share the same base uniform, is not only cost-effective but is reaping returns for the supplier, St Vincent De Paul.

Both of these examples illustrate how schools within our system are beginning to strengthen links across regions and work in clusters.

The schools’ collaboration on the uniform initiative also featured in The Advertiser (31 July, page 9). The publishing of the article is a great example of Action 8: Promoting Catholic Education in South Australia getting underway.
