Catholic Education SA currently offers 60 Supported Playgroups located within our schools across the state.
Each one is available to and welcomes children aged birth to five, and their families from their local community.
Research shows that participation in playgroup benefits both children and their families, including increased developmental outcomes for children1 and improved social connections for adult caregivers2.
The Supported Playgroups in Catholic Education (SPiCE) Program intentionally focuses on learning through play and providing a time and place for children and families to ‘be’ together and have some fun!
School playgroups provide rich opportunities for children and families to develop relationships with others within the school and wider community. Plus, being located on school sites gives the playgroups access to valuable resources (both indoor and outdoor) which children and families can benefit from.
The SPiCE Program works in partnership with external organisations to provide support, training, and regular professional development for the paid playgroup facilitators, ensuring Supported Playgroups provide high quality holistic learning experiences and education for all children and their families.
Some Catholic schools offer community playgroup sessions run by members of the school or local community.

Happy playing and learning!
