Catholic Education Week was celebrated in South Australia from May 15-21 2023 (Week 3, Term 2) – with Catholic schools across the state joining together to share some love!
There may be 101 Catholic schools spread throughout SA - but we are a close community with a shared goal of raising the hearts and minds of over 51,000 young people in SA.
Catholic Education Week is an annual opportunity to celebrate the excellent teaching and learning that happens in Catholic schools every day and reflect on what makes our schools so special.
Catholic schools in South Australia offer SO much - and each is extraordinary in its own way.
So in 2023, the week focussed on highlighting the individual things that each community loves about their school.
Via a series of social media posts, schools encouraged their communities – parents, students, staff and alumni – to comment and post about the reasons they ‘#LoveMyCatholicSchool’ to help tell the story of why our schools are so loved.
Hundreds of photos were shared of staff, students and families holding heart shaped signs detailing what they like best about their school and learning.
Schools across SA also held events to celebrate the week such as liturgies, open days, assemblies, fetes and markets.
In line with their shared ‘Called to Community’ theme in 2023, Catholic schools in the Diocese of Port Pirie came together to show their unity during Catholic Education Wee with a simultaneous liturgy and tree planting. The 5 Catholic schools in the Riverland region gathered together at St Francis of Assisi College, Renmark for a liturgy followed by many fun activities including dancing, sports, face painting, cookie decorating, colouring and much more!
Nine educators - including one with a chicken called ‘Hennifer Lopez’ - have been recognised at the annual Catholic Education Awards ceremony on May 18.
