I am always delighted to receive invitations to visit our schools. It is a wonderful reminder for me about our mission and purpose and also the significant contribution we make as a sector of schools to young people, families, our Church and the wider society. Recently I visited Gleeson College, Golden Grove, and had the pleasure of meeting Principal, Andrew Baker, staff and students.
There is much that can be learned from such visits! I know that Gleeson College is a very good and successful school, offering innovative programs and quality learning experiences to the young people there. I experienced a staff group that is committed to young people and the mission of the Church, through education. The energy of the staff was palpable!
I enjoyed hearing from Andrew about his vision for the college and how this is unfolding. Well done Andrew! Importantly, I met young people who are serious about their studies and the broader experience of being in the college community. Year 12, Alex shared with me his learning of the impacts of Lenin’s return to Moscow – delightful! A group of Year 12 girls shared in detail their preparations for their high tea event to be held the following weekend - high level organisation!
I took more away from this experience than I left. Many thanks to Andrew Baker and the Gleeson community.
