Earlier in 2015, Technology Coordinator at St Mary’s College, Adelaide, Ms Giovanna Iannicelli, was nominated for the Academic Integrity Award Turnitin, for the work that she has undertaken in providing professional development with staff at the College and other schools. In particular Giovanna has acted as a point of reference for Turnitin (an anti-plagiarism software tool) when contacted by colleagues from other schools.
For this work Giovanna has been awarded the Academic Integrity Award for Australia and New Zealand. It is a wonderful affirmation of Ms Giovanna’s excellence of practice in digital pedagogy as well as her professional sharing with colleagues. St Mary’s College Digital Citizenship Policy helps to ensure that integrity is part of the school's culture and values which Giovanna and the teaching staff constantly reinforce. Her view of Turnitin as a positive teaching tool is highlighted in her comment:
“It’s used more as a formative teaching tool, a part of the writing process.”
St Mary’s College policies and Giovanna’s commitment have ensured a high awareness and importance of academic integrity, resulting in better academic writing from the students.
Twenty students from Catholic schools in South Australia have been named among the winners in two major state-wide Humanities competitions.
Earlier this year, senior school students from across South Australia were invited to enter the 2024 Premier’s Anzac Spirit School Prize and the Muriel Matters Awards.
