On Friday 6 November 60 people gathered in the Catholic Education Conference Centre to recognise and thank Fr Tony Densley for his significant contribution to Catholic Education over the last 32 years.
Fr Tony was ordained to the Priesthood in 1972. He gained both his Masters (Religious Education) and his Doctorate in New York. This background paved the way for a distinguished career in Catholic Education.
Director of Catholic Education SA, Helen O’Brien, paid tribute to Fr Tony who joined the staff of the Catholic Education Office in 1984 as the Coordinator of Religious Education, a role he carried out till 1996. Then he became the Program Director of both the Master of Catholic Education and the Graduate Certificate of Education (Catholic Education) at UniSA. Fr Tony completes his work with the Masters program this year. Additionally, Fr Tony has been involved in numerous religious education publications and has held national roles including membership of the National Catholic Education Commission.
Tanya Stott, Religious Education consultant, who completed her Masters of Catholic Education with the guidance of Fr Tony, represented the hundreds of students that he has supported. She spoke of her personal study journey and how enabling she found Fr Tony’s style and sincerely thanked Fr Tony on behalf of his post graduate students.
Fr Tony spoke of his satisfaction in his own educational journey and life opportunities and his deep appreciation of his role in Catholic Education.
Vicar General, Fr Philip Marshall, congratulated Fr Tony and offered a special blessing.
Fr Tony was presented with a certificate of recognition and a gift to mark his valuable contribution to education in South Australia and nationally.

Twenty students from Catholic schools in South Australia have been named among the winners in two major state-wide Humanities competitions.
Earlier this year, senior school students from across South Australia were invited to enter the 2024 Premier’s Anzac Spirit School Prize and the Muriel Matters Awards.
