St Therese Year Seven students are busy working on preparations for their Graduation ceremony and End of Year Mass. It is a time when they reflect on their journey in primary school and prepare themselves for transitioning to secondary school.
One of their activities was to make a shield depicting, their journey so far, their loved ones, their memories of school and their hopes for the future. Another, was to write a letter of thanks to their parents and to share their thoughts and feelings. The students are looking to the future with joy and eagerness along with insecurity and apprehension of the unknown.
One student commented,
“I am really excited about the graduation ceremony and about starting High School. But, I am nervous about making new friends and new teachers. I have been at St Therese for 8 years and I feel really safe here,” he said .
The students reflected on how their feelings were probably similar to those of Mary when Angel Gabrielle told her that she was going to have a baby and that the baby would be the Son of God. “She would have been excited to be chosen by God and to do what God asked but also scared of what lay ahead and having a baby”, he said.
In the process of preparing, the students have faced a few obstacles to make the end of their year and primary schooling very special, Another student commented “Just as Mary and Joseph had to conquer many challenges to prepare for the birth of Jesus”, she said.
Twenty students from Catholic schools in South Australia have been named among the winners in two major state-wide Humanities competitions.
Earlier this year, senior school students from across South Australia were invited to enter the 2024 Premier’s Anzac Spirit School Prize and the Muriel Matters Awards.
