Role Details

Our Lady of Hope has an unwavering commitment to establish a wellbeing culture at our school that is trauma responsive and enables the growth of every person within our community. We are seeking a School Counsellor who will be a valuable member of our Pastoral Care Team and assist us in reaching our destination. The successful applicant will:

  • Actively support and promote the Catholic ethos of our school with a genuine commitment to the religious dimension and Oblate traditions
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective and authentic relationships with students, their families, colleagues and allied health services
  • Be a collaborative member of our Pastoral Care Team
  • Have undertaken, or be willing to undertake, training to support students with complex needs including neurodiversity
  • Enable students to take personal responsibility for their learning as well as their behaviour from Reception to Year 6
  • Demonstrate a commitment to their personal professional growth in Student Wellbeing

How to Apply

Applicants will be required to hold a current:

  • First Aid (HLTA100,21 Certificate
  • 7 hour (full day) Responding to the Risks of Harm. Abuse and Neglect certificate plus an update certificate if applicable 
  • Screening & Verification Authority Clearance Card from the Catholic Archdioces of Adelaide OR a Department of Human Services (DHS) Working With Children Check
  • Counselling Degree or equivalent

  • Cover Letter - 1 page
  • Applicant Declaration Form
  • A response addressing each of the Role Description criteria as headings - 2 pages
  • Curriculum Vitae - 3 pages (Including the names of three current referees, one of whom needs to be your most recent supervisor. Please include both the business and home or mobile phone contact for referees)

Ten years ago, a unique cross-sector initiative between Catholic, public and independent schools in South Australia was established to certify teachers as Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers (HALT).

Fast forward to November 2024 and Catholic Education SA (CESA) is delighted to announce its 100th certified HALT teacher; Penny Bateman, from Xavier College, Gawler Belt campus. Penny, who holds the position of English Curriculum Leader, began her teaching career in 2021 and started her HALT certification this year. Receiving HALT certification means that Penny will now be able to mentor colleagues in the process and provide expert guidance on evidence-based teaching practices while fostering professional growth within her department.

Four Catholic schools across South Australia have been awarded $6.34 million in grants for capital works to improve learning spaces, increase opportunities for disadvantaged students and cater for more diverse learning needs.

The State Government grants — $6.34 million for Catholic schools and $6.38 million for independent schools — are for building projects to commence over the next year.

Introduced in 2018 to ensure all students have access to a first-class education, the latest funding under the scheme has been approved for four projects at Catholic schools and 103 smaller projects at independent schools.
