Co-located with St Francis de Sales College, learning programs cater for children from 6 months to Preschool. We work in collaboration with the school to provide a supportive, curriculum rich environment, that offers children and families learning continuity from Early Learning to Reception and beyond.

Catholic Church Early Years Inc is looking to employ a talented casual Cook at Mount Barker to provide support when our regular cook is unavailable. There is a possibility of additional hours at our other Alive Catholic Early Learning Centre located at Hove for the right candidate.

About the role

We are seeking a cook who has proven experience in quality meal preparation and presentation in a hygienic, clean and safe kitchen environment. The role requires someone who not only understands the importance of nutrition for children in the early years but is passionate about providing healthy alternatives to children’s favourite meals.

This role is responsible for all aspects of food preparation and service for 80 children ranging in age from 6 months to 5 years. This includes food ordering, preparation and cooking 3 meals per day (morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea). All of our Centres have a commercial kitchen for your use.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated practical experience, preferably working as a Cook in an Early Learning Centre (or similar). You will be passionate about cooking a predominantly wholefoods menu which is nutrient dense to support children’s learning and wellbeing. 

Additionally, you will have knowledge of children’s nutritional and developmental requirements, as well food intolerances and allergies, which will enable you to prepare nutritious meals.

Essential qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Community Food Services or Commercial Cookery (or equivalent)
  • Current Working with Children (WWC) clearance
  • First Aid ACECQA approved qualification
  • Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care
