As we begin the 2022 school year, it’s fair to say it’s been an interesting holiday period, especially this last week when the government announced the return to school plan.
In Catholic Education, we are ready for the return to school in two ways:
There’s no doubt we will manage this well and, together, we’ll make 2022 the most successful year yet.
In doing so, let’s remind ourselves that the beginning of any school year is special, and this is certainly true for 2022.
For more than 4000 children, it will be their first ever first day of school. We will welcome these children with all our hearts, and I offer my best wishes to the families of these children, for whom this will be a very memorable time. Indeed, in years to come, you will look back on this day fondly, and you will wonder where all that time has gone! There’s only one chance for a special first ever day, so let’s make the most of it.
At the other end of the spectrum, for those young people going into Year 12, it’s the last ever first day and, this year, is their last chance to be their best selves at school. To all our Year 12 students, we are ready for you and, together, we’ll make this a successful final year.
And, finally, for all in between – students, staff, and families – and for all who have an interest in Catholic Education, 2022 is another opportunity for us to build on our past successes, learn from our mistakes, and achieve new goals.
So, may God’s blessing shine down upon all of us as we pursue educational excellence, enlivened faith formation and meaningful partnerships in our schools, centres and offices.
Go well.

We understand that parents will have many questions about the changes to the 2022 school year announced by the Premier on January 13.
