24 outstanding Catholic Education SA educators have been awarded for achieving Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher status by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
The national Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation recognises and rewards highly innovative and exemplary expert teachers who routinely work independently and collaboratively to improve their practice and the practice of colleagues.
An award ceremony at the Adelaide Convention Centre on June 16 celebrated over 60 teachers from Catholic Education, Department of Education and the Independent sector who have successfully achieved certification during the last 12 months or renewed their certification after 5 years.
The awards were presented by the Honourable Nat Cook, Minister for Human Services who expressed her "deep appreciation for the unwavering commitment of the teachers to the support and development of their students, their colleagues, and their own professional growth."
Ceremony host Danny Pinchas, AITSL’s General Manager of Teaching and School Leaders said the awards shine a spotlight on educators who are truly dedicated to fostering excellence in our classrooms and celebrate the exceptional teacher quality in South Australia.
"We salute their commitment to their practice, their students, and the betterment of the teaching profession."
Certification of Highly Accomplished and Lead teachers has three purposes:
Achieving this level of national certification is a rigorous process managed in SA through the cross-sector South Australian Teacher Certification Committee (SATCC), requiring teachers to reflect on their practice and show evidence collected over the previous five years of their impact on colleagues and students across the 7 standards and 37 descriptors of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. These descriptors include knowing their students and how they learn, the content and how to teach it, and creating and maintaining supportive and safe learning environments, amongst others.
Congratulations to the 2023 cohort of Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers!
