It is with some excitement that members of the Catholic Education Office commence work for 2016!
As you know, last year was a very significant year for planning when we developed the Strategy for Leading Catholic Education to New Levels of Excellence. During 2016 we will begin to implement some of those previously determined strategic actions. We are calling it a year of action here in the office. And we have already made a good start.
Matthew Wadewitz, Cardijn College, Noarlunga Downs, was accredited as a national lead teacher in 2014. He shares some insights of his work and preparation in becoming a lead teacher.
"There are quite a few similarities between Certification and a marathon. You start off and you think it’s going to be smooth sailing. You come across some road bumps within the journey, but there’s some incredible moments along the way."

The Catholic Education Office, Thebarton will close for the year at 11:30am on Thursday 24 December.
The office will re-open for 2016 at 8.30am on Monday 4 January.
This year St Francis de Sales College entered six teams in The Australian National Titration Competition, with two teams successfully qualifying for the State Final held at UniSA. The team consisting of Jasmine Hobbs, Jessica Sachse and Melanie Vande Veerdonk progressed to the National Final.
On 26 and 27 November, Catholic Education SA’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Team offered two special cultural learning opportunities, one for educators and the other for Year 6-9 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Catholic schools.#Yarning Up! Spirituality & Culture in the Arts featured Ernie Dingo, one of Australia’s well-known and significant Aboriginal artists, as the key presenter.
Catholic Education SA has made a decision to implement a phased transition of Year 7s from a primary to a secondary setting over the next 5 years. This means that in the majority of schools Year 6 will become the final year of primary schooling. Year 7 will become the first year of secondary schooling.
8 December 2015 marks the beginning of the Jubilee Year of Mercy called by Pope Francis for the Catholic Church. The year will conclude on 12 December 2016.For Sisters of Mercy and their partners-in-Mercy, the year provides a profound call to explore Mercy anew.
The Australian Catholic Youth Festival at the Adelaide Convention Centre, from 3-5 December, was a resounding success! The festival engaged three and a half thousand youth from around the nation. The event was supported by a legion of willing volunteers who helped to present the welcoming face of the Catholic Church in South Australia.
Tenison Woods College joins schools in the South East to break the silence on domestic violence. More than 280 students in Years 8 to 11 formed the white ribbon symbol at Marist Park this morning to say no to violence.
