Congratulations to Toby Maughan, Class of 2015, at St Joseph’s School Port Lincoln who has been awarded the ‘Kathleen McPhee Scholarship’ in Music for 2016. This initiative was set up by Catholic Education SA and the scholarships are awarded to students who intend to study Music after completing Year 12.
Catholic Education SA congratulates 16 of its schools who are represented in the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority’s (ACARA), My School website, as schools demonstrating substantially above average gains in NAPLAN from 2013 to 2015.
On Friday, March 4, the 2016 Arch D Radio Awards were held at the DeBourg Auditorium in Sacred Heart College. During 2015, 71 students from 7 schools were a part of Arch D shows as on-air announcers and music programmers. The Arch D program broadcasts on 107.9 Life FM every Wednesday and Saturday night, and is heard by over 30,000 listeners per week.
Kildare College is celebrating 50 years of excellence in girls’ education in 2016. The establishment of Kildare College in Holden Hill will always be a significant event in the history of the Brigidine Congregation as it was and still is the only Brigidine Secondary College in South Australia.
St Mark’s College in Port Pirie have just opened a new senior secondary building. It is an innovatively designed precinct for Year 12s. There are a series of rooms and spaces which will become the hub and home to the Year 12s. There was a simple ceremony to enter that included cutting a red ribbon at the door, quaffing a champagne flute full of lemonade and creating a toast to learning. The opening was also about the excitement of what a new space means for the Year 12 journey.

St Joseph’s Payneham has embraced Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) technology, in line with the new Australian Digital Technologies curriculum where students are being taught computer literacy from an early age.
An invitation has been extended for a staff member from each school across the Diocese of Port Pirie to participate in the first Social Justice Outreach Experience to the village of Abaokoro in the Republic of Kiribati (pronounced Kir-ee-bas) in July 2016.
St Patrick’s Technical College Scholarship Partner, BoysTown, is now yourtown – the new name and image coming into effect over the weekend. yourtown’s experience in helping disadvantaged young people find their place in the community through training, counselling and other support services, has seen a partnership in northern Adelaide with St Patrick’s Technical College naturally evolve over the past ten years.
The Marine Discovery Centre (MDC), located at Star of the Sea School, Henley Beach, was delighted to host a visit from Minister for Education and Training Senator Simon Birmingham and Local Member Matt Williams MP recently. Minister Birmingham, who also brought along his youngest daughter, was very impressed with the centre and was aware of the funding issues the centre faces. The self-funded MDC has visitors from all areas of South Australia, including a recent visit from a school from Victoria, and from all State, Independent and Catholic sectors in SA. Sadly, the MDC is the only centre left in Adelaide that primary school children can visit for a hands-on science experience.
