St Francis de Sales College, Mount Barker, is one of eight schools across Australia that was successful in its bid for a Federal Department of Education grant to support the building of educational links with schools in India. The Program is called ‘Australia- India BRIDGE Partnership Program’. Minister Pyne officially launched the program on Monday 24 August together with The Hon Mr Jamie Briggs MP, Federal Member for Mayo. A video link connected St Francis de Sales College students and staff with Delhi Public School and Minister Pyne and Mr Mukesh Kumer to showcase the schools’ partnership.
Catholic Schools around the State are celebrating Children’s Book Week; the longest running children’s literary event in Australia, in this its 70th year. This year’s theme “Books Light Up Our World” is connected with the International Year of Light. 2015 will mark the 27th Catholic Schools Music Festival, with a theme dedicated to the music from the 1910’s, 20’s, 30’s & 40’s. This year’s theme recognises one hundred years since the Gallipoli landings and 70 years since WWII ended. Over 2000 students from Catholic schools across the state will perform throughout the four evenings of the music festival, touching the hearts of their Adelaide Festival Theatre audiences.
At the annual Daniel Delany Mass Kildare College, Holden Hill, welcomed Mick Beech from the St Vincent de Paul Society who collected the crocheted and knitted blankets that the wonderful community made. It is a heart-warming project involving students, parents, staff and members of the Parish of St David’s and Our Lady of Hope. Community members donated wool, made and sewed together hundreds of squares into warm, colourful blankets that will now go to people in need.
Year 9 and 10 Geography students from Christian Brothers College tested their geographical skills and knowledge against students from all around Australia in the 2015 Australian Geography Competition. The Competition aims to encourage student interest in geography and to reward student excellence.
South Australia Catholic Primary Schools Winter Carnivals (SACPSSA) have been very well attended with combined entry of 7503 across three carnivals: Athletics, Netball and Cross Country.

Action 4: Regional guidelines and protocols explores how schools can work towards greater collaboration.In recent weeks, a number of local Catholic schools brought this action to life as they teamed up on some unique projects.
Every meal served in St Vincent De Paul’s homeless shelter in Whitmore Square for the next financial year will be funded by a unique collaboration between three Catholic schools. The eastern suburbs schools – St Thomas' School Goodwood, St Joseph's School Kingswood and St Therese School Colonel Light Gardens – have developed a shared school uniform.
On Tuesday 4 August, five Catholic parish primary schools gathered at St Joseph’s Hectorville for a forum on student leadership. The forum was one activity in a shared open week with the purpose of strengthening the collective presence of Catholic parish primary schools in the eastern suburbs. Each of the schools, St Joseph’s Memorial, St Joseph’s Tranmere, St Joseph’s Hectorville, St Joseph’s Payneham and St Francis of Assisi Newton, share a Josephite heritage.
On Thursday 23 July, at a special ceremony and liturgy, the Nazareth Catholic College memorial to honour the Kaurna People of the Adelaide Plains was blessed and opened by Fr Bill Brady and Mr John Lochowiak. Mr Lochhowiak gave the Welcome to Country on behalf of Uncle Lewis O’Brien (Kaurna Elder) and performed the smoking ceremony. Fr Bill blessed the memorial after a liturgy facilitated by the student leaders of the College.
