Earlier in 2015, Technology Coordinator at St Mary’s College, Adelaide, Ms Giovanna Iannicelli, was nominated for the Academic Integrity Award Turnitin, for the work that she has undertaken in providing professional development with staff at the College and other schools. In particular Giovanna has acted as a point of reference for Turnitin (an anti-plagiarism software tool) when contacted by colleagues from other schools.
Catholic Schools were well represented in the results of the “Primary Mathematics Association Powerful Learners: Mathematics and Numeracy Challenge” awards this year. The awards were announced earlier in October and winning schools came together to be presented their awards by the Hon. Minister of Education, Susan Close, on Friday evening 16 October.
Catholic Education SA is delighted to have Professor Paul Clarke in Adelaide again working with our schools. Paul brings his engaging, creative “hands on” approach as he helps students and teachers to better understand and care for the environment. Paul is co-founder of the Pop-Up-Foundation – a creative organisation helping sustainability projects to “pop up” in schools. He is also professor of education at St Mary's University College, London.
Parents and education leaders from the Catholic, government and independent sectors have participated in the inaugural Parents in Education Week in South Australia. ~~A highlight of the week was a forum including input from Barbara Barker, Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY).

Early Spring saw 341 teams from 42 schools participated over four days in the South Australian Catholic Primary School Sports Association (SACPSSA) Touch Carnival on Park 17 Greenhill Road. 3,069 children were involved.
On Thursday 15 October Blackfriars Priory School hosted the annual Transition meeting offered to 60 CESA metropolitan schools and colleges. This meeting is part of Catholic Education SA Transition Program which provides schools with the opportunity to share information relevant to supporting a smooth passage for Year 7 students into secondary education.
The staff and students of St Mary’s, Glenelg, recently acknowledged past student Bart Cummings by staging a race meeting at Glenelg’s Wigley Reserve providing a great lead up to the Melbourne Cup!
The Reception staff of the Catholic Education Office offer condolences for Phil Whittle who recently and quite suddenly passed away this week. Phil has delivered our mail to the front desk for a number of years now. He is remembered as a bright and bubbly person who always had a cheerful word. He was committed to providing good service. Phil has been regarded as an extension of the ‘work family’ of the front office and will be missed. Vale Phil
The Marine Discovery Centre, Star of the Sea School, Henley Beach is delighted to announce that it will be offering a unique program calling on Science and Aboriginal understandings of the environment. The project will have a bi-cultural aspect that allows the sharing of different ways of understanding water quality, catchment, and coastal issues.
